MUSLIMS AND THE CHALLENGES OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER

WESTERN HAGEMONY The New World Order, to be sure, is neither new, nor does it belong to the world any more than the two World Wars do, and certainly it is anything but an order. It is the same old Western tyranny, a good case of the same old wine in a new bottle. For Western hegemony of the globe had been on for the best part of the last three centuries. It started with (what we were told was) international trade, including the worst form of slavery the world has witnessed. It then developed into colonization during which a whole people were conquered, their honor and rights violated, their property plundered and their freedom and self determination suppressed, often brutally. It has today culminated into a total and absolute subjugation: political, economic and, the worst, intellectual and all in the name of freedom, democracy and human rights. But what is it, we must ask, that gave the West this power to arrogate to the themselves the world leadership and coerce people, as it were, to submission? It is of course well known that the West drives its strength and therefore its arrogance from its control of military technology and information and propaganda. It has also dominated the world economy in a way that allows it ample resources to fund its institutions of defense and propaganda while stunting and frustrating the growth of others. The relationship between the West and the rest of us is not cooperation but exploitation. The rule of the game is subjugation and the instrument is brute, naked and unmitigated force. The West under American leadership are clearly not prepared to relinquish their position or allow Muslims any respite that may give them a chance to survive and flourish. What therefore should the Muslims do? Or better still, what can the Muslims do? Should they fight back? But with which Power? Isolate the West economically? But again how? Withdraw from the United Nation as our beleaguered Bosnian brothers have suggested? Can we? These are only some of the questions we must ask and answer if we are to address ourselves to the challenges posed by the new world order.
