How to transfer a domain
Transferring a .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz domain name to Webstar
Ltd
1. You need to send an email to info@webstar.co.uk with the name of
the domain that you wish to transfer to Webstar Ltd. Please let us
know what services you require on this domain e.g. hosting and/or
email addresses. For .biz, .org and .info domains, we may require an
auth_code to initiate the transfer so please include that
information within the email also. The auth_code is a secret pass
phrase which show verifiable proof of ownership of the domain.
2. Webstar Ltd will initiate the transfer of your domain. The admin
contact for the domain will be contacted by our registrar, Melbourne
IT, via email to request that they approve the transfer. If the
request is not approved within 5 days, the request will be rejected.
3. You need to make sure that you are the admin email contact for
your domain name because you need to approve that transfer request.
You can verify who the admin email is by doing a WHOIS search
(www.whois.net).
4. If you are not the admin email contact for the domain name you
will need to contact the company you registered the domain name with
and request the change of that email address. We cannot email the
request to any other email address other than the admin email
contact as this is a security measure for domain name owners.
You cannot transfer a domain if:
1. The domain has already been
(registered or transferred) less than 60 days ago with another
registration company.
2. Your previous registrar has
the name locked for either non-payment, or at your request.
3. The domain has already passed
its expiration date or is about to expire within 20 days.
4. You do not have access to the
registered Admin Contact email for your domain, or the person listed
on your domain's Admin Contact email doesn't approve the transfer
within 5 days after initial transfer request.
Transferring a UK domain name to Webstar Ltd
If you have a UK domain
name (co.uk, org.uk) registered through another company you can
transfer your domain name to Webstar Ltd by contacting the company
where you registered your domain name. You should check with your
current domain name company if they charge any release fees.
1. Contact your current ISP (or
other provider) to ask them to change the IPSTAG (a unique
identifier for each domain registry in the UK) for the domain to
WEBSTAR. This allows Webstar Ltd to take over management of the
domain.
2. Let us know once that is done
and it shows when doing a WHOIS search (www.nominet.org.uk) and we
will add your domain name to our system. Please email
info@webstar.co.uk to notify us (this is very important. Failure to
do so may result in your domain name being de-tagged).
3. Once your domain name is in
our system, we will be able to set up the hosting and/or email
addresses required.
Ensuring a smooth transfer of your web and mail services
If you are concerned about the impact of downtime during the
transfer process, this section provides guidance on how to minimise
any web or mail outages:
Website Access
We strongly recommend that you upload a copy of your website to your
Webstar webspace before the transfer domain is transferred. This
will ensure that once the domain is pointed to Webstar's servers the
old and new sites will run in parallel until all domain name servers
throughout the world are updated with our DNS records. One week
after the domain has been transferred you can remove the old site.
Mail Services
You need to inform us of the email addresses that you have set up
with your old ISP on this domain. We can then set up the same
accounts on Webstar’s servers. During the transfer process you will
continue to receive mail at your old host/ISP. You may wish to ask
your current ISP to re-direct your mail to your Webstar mailboxes
during this period. Once the domain is fully transferred all of your
mail should be handled through your Webstar mailboxes.
